To be qualified to receive and wear the "TRAINED" strip as a Cub Scout Leader you must participate in Fast Start Training, New Leader Essentials and Cub Scout Leader Specific.
Fast Start Training is the initial training for all leaders in all programs. It is a quick job description with basic tips to manage until further training is available. New Leader Essentials (NLE) Training is designed for all volunteers and provides the basics of the Scouting programs, the age appropriateness of those programs, and our values and methods. This training is usually delivered by the district training committee and takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Cub Scout Leader Specific Training (CSLST) includes five different breakout sessions related to Cub Scouting for Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos Den Leaders and Assistants, Pack Committee Chairs, Committee Members, and Cubmasters and Assistants. This training takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is usually Offered at the District level. Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) provides techniques for planning a safe camping experience for Cub Scouts. Each pack is required to have BALOO trained leaders present when camping. BALOO training lasts one full day and is usually offered by the District or the Council. Check the Pack or District calendars, or ask a pack leader for more information about BALOO training.
Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders (OLSWL) provides essential outdoor skills for Webelos Leaders to share with their Webelos. OLSWL may be offered in one day or weekend programs and is usually provided at the District level.
Scouters' Academy is a day long program of action, activites and program ideas offered at the Council level.
Cub Scout Leader Roundtable is a monthly program designed to give leaders the skills and ideas they need to deliver an exciting Cub Scout Program to the boys. Roundtable meetings are offered at the District level.
Certification Saturday is a one day session designed to teach and certify safe BB and archery range officers for district and/or council events. CPR is also offered. Please note shooting sports are not den or pack activities. This training is usually offered at the Council level.
Wood Badge is a Weeklong or multiple weekend training course designed to provide adults with advanced leadership skills and a more dedicated involvement in Scouting. Safe Swim Defense/Safety Afloat Training is required for your unit to participate in ANY aquatic activity. Safe Swim Defense/Safety Afloat training is available online or through the Camp Allatoona Aquatics Base. National Training Conferences held at the Philmont Training Center located in Cimarron, New Mexico. Invitational training held during the summer to enhance knowledge, skills and attitude to improve performance of District and Council level Scouting roles.
